what is gas tungsten arc welding definition advantages and disadvantages

what are the advantages and disadvantages of gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW)

What is gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW)? GTAW or gas tungsten arc welding process is a manual welding process that can only be done by an experienced welder. GTAW produces excellent quality and excellent welding quality. This process is often used for pipe welding or pressure vessels with special materials such as high-temperature steel, stainless steel or high strength steel. This GTAW welding process is also often used with the SMAW process, which is in the root (which requires good and clean quality) using the GTAW process and is followed by a faster SMAW process. GTAW (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding) is an electric arc welding process using non-melted electrodes. In this GTAW welding, the electrode or tungsten is only functioning as an arc producer when it comes to contact with the workpiece, while the filler material is the filler rod. This GTAW welding is also often referred to as Argon welding, it is because the protective gas used is Argon gas.  GTAW is also called Las TIG which has a Tungsten Inert Gas extension, this difference is just a mention. If GTAW is more frequent for American terms while TIG is for the European region. Unlike simple welding methods which[…]

1G, 2G, 3G, 4G, 5G, 6G, 1F, 2F, 3F, 4F pipe welding position

What is the welding position? Welding Position is the type or position of the connection to be welded, this welding position is based on the material or product to be welded. In welding technology, all of them have coding based on the type of connection. For fillet connections, it is symbolized with positions 1F, 2F, 3F, and 4F, while for groove or bevel connections it is symbolized by 1G, 2G, 3G, and 4G. Fillet weld is a method for combining two parts of metal vertically or slightly at an angle. They are also known as T connections or Lap connections (Lap connections are when pieces of metal overlap and the edges are welded). Welds are in the form of triangles and are commonly used when connecting pipes. This is also called closed welding because the weld metal does not need to be cut to join. Groove welds are made in metal grooves that will be joined. Need full penetration to have strong joints. This weld is used for the tip and butt joint connections. Groove welds are stronger than fillet welds. In general, basic welding positions consist of 4 types namely flat position, horizontal position, vertical position, and overhead position. In[…]

welding inspector job and responsiblity

responsibility of welding inspector in Oil and Gas Project

welding inspector jobs In construction work at Oil and gas company, we often install equipment tanks, pressure vessels, and pipeline or piping. the work that we often find is welding. workers involved in welding are welding coordinators, welding engineers, welding supervisors, welding inspectors, welder, and NDT inspector. a welding inspector is responsible for ensuring or maintaining the quality of welds or Quality Control (QC) of a welding product in accordance with specified standards such as ASME, AWS, API or JWES. The task of welding inspectors in the field is not limited to inspections, but they also sometimes have the task of making welding maps, making reports, carrying out NDT tests such as Test Tests, UT and MT (if they have the ability or certificate in accordance with the test). Some companies want a welding inspector to function as an NDT inspector to improve efficiency and competitiveness. If you are interested in becoming a Welding Inspector, then you must be able to study metallurgy, basic mathematics and be able to understand terms in the Code or standard engineering. Other knowledge that you must learn is knowledge of Materials, Consumable, Welding Process, Heat treatment, Inspection, Drawing, Reporting and communication skills. The welding[…]

10 best job interview questions 2019

Job interview I have worked for more than 15 years and applied work for more than 50 times. There are several questions that are often asked by interviewers to prospective employees. There are at least 3 types of interviewers, namely HR employees, prospective employers or we are familiar with the term user and the last is management representatives. On several occasions, I have also been an interviewer to look for new team members who will join our engineering team. An interview is used to verify the information provided by the candidate. It helps to ascertain the accuracy of the provided facts and information about the candidate. This process gives the interviewer information about the candidate’s technical knowledge and to justify the best candidate. 10 best job interview questions Tell me about yourself and What motivates you?
