how is separation process in oil and gas facilities?

many people do not understand how is separation process in oil and gas facilities. there are many steps take place during separation of crude oil in oil and gas facilities. In crude oil facilities, we separate crude oil from water, gas, sand and other impurities. the separation take place in many locations.

Crude oil separation process in oil and gas facilities – 1st step

production fluid from well head will flow to a separation station, which some oil company call it as Gathering station. In this Gathering station, production fluid is separated to 3 fluid types: gas, liquid and sand. The first separation process is gas separation. the gas stream is separated from production fluid in a vertical pressure vessel separator. The gas stream go to top pressure vessel, and the rest production fluid flow to the bottom side.

Crude oil separation process in oil and gas facilities – 2nd step

the second step separation is liquid separation. water is separated from production fluid in a Big Tank. In this tank, water will stay at the bottom side while crude oil stays at the top side. crude oil density is lighter than water density.
